Role of Institution in the Network
Machiavelli and the reception of his ideas are central to teaching and research at Tufts. In major studies published over the past five years, Tufts Machiavelli scholars have combined historical and contextual approaches with the Chicago School's methods to explore the reception of Machiavelli's ideas by Reason of State thinkers like Botero, Gentillet, and Bodin, as well as by English political thinkers like Hobbes, Nedham, Neville, and Sidney, among others. Their current research focuses on the ways in which Machiavelli's methods were adapted to the demands of early modern political thought.
